Healthy Substitutions: Peppermint Flavored Coffee

By: Erin Dehmlow

I’ve been trying to make healthy substitutions in my daily life. However, one thing that I won’t substitute is my morning coffee!

I love my peppermint flavored coffee to wake me up. Lately, I have been obsessed with putting Peppermint Essential Oil in my coffee. Not only does it energize me and help maintain efficient digestion, but it fills my house with the fresh minty smell, when I am brewing my coffee. Talk about a two for one! I get to diffuse and then ingest, the same drop of oil!

Here is what I found works best for me- put one or two drops of peppermint essential oil in the bottom of your carafe prior to brewing your coffee. The oil is concentrated so you will want to start with one drop at first. Then, make coffee as usual. Enjoy the smell as your coffee percolates. I like to add a splash of milk to mine too! As you sip your morning coffee, enjoy the natural taste of peppermint and feel good that you have made a healthy change in your morning routine!
