3 Reasons Why Variety Is Important In Workouts

Glendale Physical Therapist

“Variety is the spice of life”- or so they say, but it is true when it comes to your workouts! Do you find yourself hitting the same equipment every time you go to the gym? Running the same path everyday? Well it is time to give your workout a revamp and shake it up a bit! Why? We give you 3 reasons why variety is important in your workouts:

Change The Weight Load

(Overload principle) increase the load to improve adaptation. In order to improve muscle growth, strength gains or improved performance the body must be challenged. Try gradually increasing the weight during your workouts instead of using the same amount of weight for every workout.

Change Your Workout Position

Try changing positions during your workouts. You can target the same area of the body in different positions. For example: to strengthen your hips you can try laying on side in a plank and kicking the leg up and down. Also try being in a plank position and moving one leg side to side. The key is creativity! Our muscles, tissues and nervous system like variety.

Change The Direction

Try performing lunges in multiple directions instead of straight forward. Lunge to the side or perform a rotational lunge- your hips, ankles and spine will thank you.
