What Gets You Outdoors?

Glendale Physical Therapist

When gets you outdoors? The list of activities and sports you do outside is a long list- and there is really something for everyone! Dr. Breana Prince PT, DPT, describes some great ways to get outdoors and some great hobbies she has picked up wile enjoying the beautiful scenery!

Activity has always been a big part of my life. This past year I have turned to kayaking for some mental clarity and emotional reset. Something about being on glass like water and having the spectacular Arizona views makes me so happy. I personally purchased a relatively inexpensive inflatable kayak that was under $100 and it can fit in any vehicle. The best tip I can give is to buy a small air pump that plugs into the 12V plug in your car. The kayak comes with a hand pump, but it’s an arm burner pre arm exercise with rowing.

I would love to kayak much more often but that is not realistic. When I can’t make it to my regular exercise class, or I don’t feel like going to the gym, I try to work out outside. I have a concrete slab next to my house where I have the bare essentials; Suspension trainer (off brand but  just as effective), free weights, jump rope, and dumbbells. At time I become bored with the circuits I think of or don’t push myself very hard. At this point my dog becomes my saving grace. Something about putting in some headphones and going for a jog or even a walk before work puts me in a much better mood and makes me feel much better about leaving her at home. I used to run all the time in high school and college but with time I gradually stopped. Now that I am back at it, I wish I would have never quit!  Now the the weather is perfect in the morning I have much less of an excuse not to commit to our morning routine.
